A new model of sustainable tourism in Puertito de Adeje

An new project in El Puertito de Adeje aspires to be a benchmark for the sustainable tourism model in the Canary Islands. Located in a remote area of the southwest coast of Tenerife, it is an accommodation proposal focused on the community of new generation travelers, with environmental responsibility, who flee from overcrowding and generate less waste.

The project, called Cradle of the Soul, It has been conceived from a perspective of environmental respect and integration with the landscape. It is developed on an area of 500,000 square meters, but it only occupies a third of this extension, 136,000 square meters. It includes beach apartments, houses and villas and it has been decided to reduce by half the total number of beds it could house. Of the 3,600 allowed, only 1,800 will be developed.

According to the co-CEO technical director, Andrés Muñoz de Dios, “the idea was to create a new place for modern travelers in Tenerife that adapts to a respectful tourism model. We want to develop a sustainable concept that celebrates the local and respects its place in nature, with a new interpretation of the travel experience that avoids overcrowding, consumes fewer resources and, consequently, generates less waste.”

Ecological materials and efficient management.

The promoters want it to be a benchmark for sustainability. Your buildings will be certified according to the best international practices by independent organizations such as Green or LEED. For low-rise buildings, the use of respectful materials, efficient lighting, photovoltaic production or an irrigation system that respects the environment is contemplated, thanks to the use of water that comes from recycled water treatment plants.

Landscape improvement and public infrastructures.

The project, which will mean the creation of more than 750 jobs, has for its development a team of local origin of more than 10 technical archaeologists, environmentalists, biologists, landscapers and architects. The preservation and respect for the flora and fauna of the area is a commitment of the promoters and an obligation acquired with society and the island of Tenerife.

Cuna del Alma also contemplates important improvements in the area, both in terms of landscape, services for residents, and infrastructure for public use. In this sense, it includes a recovery program and the creation of a marine classroom to help protect the loggerhead turtle, affected by the uncontrolled presence of boats and onlookers.

It also implies the total recovery of the original space of the beach, which is in full public domain, eliminating all the existing concrete walls to make it larger and in full public domain. The sand needed to recover the beach will be totally natural and will come from the sand contributions of the tides.

With regard to infrastructure and services in the area, it entails the execution of a complete network of sanitation, electricity supply, water and telecommunications. New pedestrian communication routes will also be enabled and it is planned that one of the plots near the beach will have a public car park with 150 spaces.

Laying of the first stone of the complex.

Cradle of the Soul became a reality on May 5, with the laying of the first stone and the unveiling of the commemorative plaque, presided over by the mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga; Berta Pérez, Vice President of the Cabildo, together with the investors, Sofie Vandermarliere, from the investment management holding company GT & Co, and David Van Biervliet, representing Fivanco; real estate developer co-CEO Filip Hoste; the technical director co-CEO Andrés Muñoz de Diós, and Remo Masala, creative director.

The first 106 luxury units will be located “bordering the sandy beach” and they will be a reality in 2025. There are 36 Casitas Houses (from 1 to 4 bedrooms), from 85 to 129 square meters; 32 beach apartments (from 1 to 3 bedrooms), from 80 to 163 square meters; 20 Valley Villas (1-4 bedrooms), 1,500-3,500 square feet; 18 Grand Villas (3 to 4 bedrooms), from 432 to 650 square meters, a farm of 20,000 square meters, the beach and beach club, the farmer restaurant and sailor spa, yoga and the kids’ club. The investment is budgeted at around 350 million euros.
