1,300 students take part in the ‘Talentum’ innovation challenge

The Cabildo meets in the Tenerife Auditorium a more than 1,300 students of the Talentum Future challenge. The island councilor for Innovation, Enrique Arriaga, highlights the quality of the student projects, from five islands, who presented solutions from technology to real problems.

The students, between 6 and 18 years old, arrive from 25 educational centers in Tenerife, La Gomera, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and La Palma. All of them have participated during this school year in the program organized by the councilthrough the Tenerife Science and Technology Park (PCTT).

In this edition of Talentum Future, children and young people have developed 70 technological projects presented during the final show at the Tenerife Auditorium. More than 1,500 people gather there, including students, teachers, companions and experts in innovation and technological entrepreneurship.

Enrique Arriaga congratulates the participating teams for the quality and ingenuity of their work. He highlights that «programs such as Talentum Future promote the use of new technologies among schoolchildren and develop values ​​linked to innovation, technology, an entrepreneurial attitude, creative thinking, collaborative learning and teamwork”. Arriaga also points out that “with this first approach to innovation, he encourages many scientific vocations.”

For his part, the general director of Planning, Innovation and Quality of the Canary Islands Government, Gregorio Cabrera, highlights “the alignment of the objectives of this project with those of the Canary Islands STEAM program for the promotion of scientific and technological vocations among youth”. Cabrera highlights “the participation of students from other islands.”

The Primary, Secondary, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training students who have participated in this PCTT initiative have had to face a problem or challenge in today’s society, proposing creative solutions based on educational robotics, programming and STEAM areas. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). This challenge has been taking place in Tenerife since 2016, promotes the use of technologies among young people and, for the first time, is open to participants from other islands.
