The Charcos de Valleseco Zone takes shape with the construction of the dams

Step by step, the historic demand for the so-called Charcos de Valleseco Zone, in the chicharrera capital, is taking shape. This is highlighted by the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerifehighlighting the good rhythm of the works.

After 30 years of waiting and fighting, on June 3, 2021, the first stone was laid for the long-awaited works in the Charcos de Valleseco Zone, with which the municipality will have in April 2023, according to forecasts, a new access to the sea. The works will involve an investment of 13.6 million euros, financed by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Port Authority and the Chicharrero Town Hall.

Currently, the free dikes that will protect the bath in the Charcos Zone are being executed. Three breakwaters will be built, which will be arranged as islands and will delimit the area of calm “to protect bathing activity and pleasure boats at its entrance or exit from the coast. These maritime defenses will have a dimension of 210.81 linear meters.

Specificthese days the concrete blocks are being installed “at their final level” in the so-called hammer breakwater, and “with a 400-tonne crane, the core and breakwater of the free-standing breakwaters are also being placed above the level”, according to Port sources.

The Charcos Zone project, which takes place in the space between the tower of Sea rescue and the Cidemat, is divided into three groups of actions: Playa de Charcos, Pantanales and Maritime Defences. The so-called Playa de Charcos is made up of the bathing area (272 linear metres), whose ground surface will be more or less flooded depending on the tides, and a promenade and relationship area (350 linear metres), from which produces pedestrian access from the Anaga avenue promenade. This area will include two pedestrian walkways; a landscaped and wooded rest area; and a service space with showers.

The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has published on its facebook a video showing the progress of the work. This is how a dream is built. These works show that the Port-City union continues to be a priority for the Port».
