The National Park reopens the trail to the Teide crater

The Teide National Park yesterday reopened the final section of the trail to the crater of the volcano. The operators have acted quickly before the small landslides located on the top of Spain and the entire trail can now be completed, number 10 of the protected area called Telesforo Bravo, in honor of the naturalist and geologist from Tenerife who died in 2002.

«The reduction in the risk of accident of trail No. 10 Telesforo Bravo, affected by landslides just in the section that enters the crater of the peak of the Mount Teidebased on the criteria of the technical report of the area”, collects yesterday’s resolution signed by the deputy director of the National Park, José Luis de la Rosa García.

This final part of the path has barely been closed for two days. Therefore, the activity is resumed and hikers can now access the highest point in the country –at 3,715 meters of altitude, according to the latest measurement by the National Geographic Institute and Grafcan– in the middle of the high season of ascents due to the good weather in spring. and summer.

The reopening order issued by the National Park Directorate, dependent on the Cabildo de Tenerife, recalls that This road “is regulated in its access, so it is necessary to have permission from the Directorate to travel it at any time of the day or night according to the Rules of access for visitors to the Telesforo Bravo trail, updated by the Vice-Ministry of Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands on July 23, 2010». Before the pandemic, in 2019, 70,696 people with the corresponding permits were promoted.

The Telesforo Bravo trail starts from La Rambleta, where the upper station of the Cable Car is located, to the peak of the Tenerife giant. There are 600 meters of route in which it goes from 3,550 meters to 3,715. The section that was closed on Wednesday and reopened yesterday is the last of this path, one of the most visited on the entire island for its impressive views of Tenerife and the rest of the Archipelago.

The National Park reminds that Restrictions on some trails on the slopes of the volcano remain in force until June 3 due to actions to control mouflon populationsa species introduced in 1971. The prohibitions are concentrated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the Siete Cañadas sector (from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) and the Pico Viejo sector (7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
