Tenerife Sur airport will have a new terminal after the commitment of the Cabildo with Aena

The Council of Tenerife Y Aena have announced this Friday, May 20 two new projects for the Tenerife Sur airport for an amount of 8 million euros. Of these, 6.3 million euros will be allocated to the drafting of the project for the comprehensive remodeling of the terminal area, and another 1.7 million euros will be for actions complementary to this remodeling.

This has been explained by the insular president, Peter Martinand the executive director-general manager of Aena Airports, Javier Marín, at the meeting organized with the island’s economic and social agents at the airport.

The technical advisory team of the Cabildo de Tenerife in the negotiations on the Tenerife Sur airport considers that these amounts will now allow top-level architecture and engineering studies to be presented in order to achieve the unique project that was being requested.

Pedro Martín has indicated that “after the negotiations carried out during all these months by the work teams of the two institutions, we can say that the investment greatly exceeds what was initially planned, and that it will also be put out to tender shortly, which which makes us anticipate that the execution of the project will correspond to what the island needs for the next 30 years and with what has been demanded”.

The president highlighted “the important role that both the economic and social agents of Tenerife and the mayors themselves have played in this process, especially from the south, which have not stopped claiming facilities that are up to what the island needs. Thanks to this, today we have a firm budget allocation commitment to carry out an ambitious, quality project, in which the entire building is read, making it much more functional, more comfortable, with an overall design and respond to future needs.

During the meeting, business and union representatives were informed of the new facilities, which will come into service in the coming days, and which are the result of a renovation process that began in 2017, with a global investment of 159.4 million of euros. The most outstanding action has been the construction of a connecting building between the two existing terminals, together with billing C, which will allow all operations to be carried out in a single terminal and an increase of 55% in the area allocated to airport processes, going from 90,000 m2 to 140,000 m2.
