SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the project ‘Neighbourhoods for Employment: Stronger Together’, has advised 180 unemployed people on what steps and resources they need to undertake.

This is the balance of the first year of operation of an additional advice and support service launched in 2021 within the framework of this program aimed at improving employability among sectors of the population with more difficulties in accessing the labor market.

The Minister of Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action of the Cabildo, Carmen Luz Baso, explains in a note that this initiative emerged in 2021 in response to the demand for specialized information that was received in the different nodes of the participant project, where it was proposed the possibility of starting a professional or business activity as an alternative to accessing the labor market.

Carmen Luz Baso visited these days two of the companies that have been created with the support of this specialized service, such as the Erica CreArte sewing workshop, in La Cuesta, and the Dayla Pilates Studio Reformer sports center, in Tegueste, promoted by two entrepreneurs who had an idea for self-employment but did not know the steps they had to take to carry it out.

Of the 180 people advised in the first year of activity of this service, seven have made their business project a reality, related in all cases to the commercial sector.

“These are people, mainly women, who generally have additional obstacles when setting up their business, such as a lack of resources or specialized training, but thanks to ‘Neighborhoods for Employment’ they are more likely to success”, adds the minister.

The entrepreneurship service is managed by the Insular Foundation for Training, Employment and Business Development (Fifede), within the project ‘Neighbourhoods for Employment: Stronger Together’, which is co-financed by the Canary Islands Development Fund ( Fdcan) and is part of the Strategic Framework for Insular Development (Medi).

Participating in this program are Cáritas Diocesana de Tenerife, the Spanish Red Cross, the Don Bosco Salesianos Social Foundation, the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna and Sinpromi.
