
Today, Thursday, May 19, the World Day of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) is celebrated in more than 40 countries. Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Ostomy (ACEIIO) and thereby make these diseases visible.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) encompasses two pathologies, ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. In Spain, ulcerative colitis is more common than Crohn’s disease, 58% versus 42%, and this difference is expected to increase slightly in the coming years. Both are characterized by being bowel diseases essentially, immune-mediated, inflammatory and chronic, which evolve in outbreaks (active phases) and periods of remission (inactive phases).
