SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, has asked the opposition parties -CC and PP- to overcome “revanchist” strategies and stop “blocking” the start-up of the Motor Circuit, which until now “always they had supported.

On the agenda of the next plenary session of the Cabildo, to be held on May 27, a point will be included again through which it will be proposed to dedicate 5.1 million euros to the completion of the Motor Circuit, in Granadilla de Abona.

Pedro Martín defended that it is a sports infrastructure “that has been demanded historically on the Island, both by the world of sports and the socioeconomic development of the southern area of Tenerife.”

Martín has assured that in this plenary session the opposition “has the opportunity to transcend political positions based on revenge and support a project that is not new, that is a historical demand of teams, fans, etc., and that, in addition, will increase the tourism and sports incentives for the people who reside on the Island and also for those who visit us”.

With this investment, a work would be launched that would simultaneously carry out three execution phases: land clearing, slope reinforcement to prevent runoff that could affect the track, and the building and paddock phase.

The president of the Cabildo remarked that he does not conceive that the investment of these 5 million euros is not approved because, if this were to happen, “a project that has been working on for more than thirty years would be abandoned.”

He also alluded to the fact that the Canary Coalition’s change of position regarding this project “indicates that the proposals are not voted with the common good in mind, but rather according to political strategies.”

In this regard, Martín emphasized that it makes no sense for the CC “to vote against the Circuit now only because the government group voted against the proposals they made”, and indicated that it is necessary to “raise the level” and works such as the Motor Circuit “cannot be in the middle of partisan disputes, because in the end the one who will lose out will be the citizens.”
