The Government of the Canary Islands advances together with business organizations to strengthen R+D+i

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Minister of Economy, Knowledge and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, Elena Máñez, and the director of the ACIISI, Carlos Navarro, met this morning at the CEOE headquarters in Tenerife with the employers of the Archipelago to advance together with the business organizations in a new boost to Research, Development and Innovation (R+D+i) and agree on meeting points in its commitment to a Pact for Science and Innovation.

“The key role of science in solving problems and meeting future challenges marks the priority of reaching agreements with the common goal of coming out stronger and with a more sustainable and resilient economic fabric. In this sense, the involvement and commitment of our business organizations pave the way for the success of our objectives, and their involvement is essential”, explained Elena Máñez.

The director of the ACIISI pointed out how the current situation “requires a firm commitment to science and innovation as a strategic value”, and for this the Canary Islands “need public funding for R&D&i in accordance with their priorities and that it increases regularly have a strategic framework for R&D&i that focuses its objectives on achieving greater sustainability, in addition to increasing the contribution of business R&D&i, helping companies to systematize their innovation processes and supporting their investments in projects that improve their competitive position through scientific or technological knowledge”

During the meeting, issues such as promoting innovation, applicability, industrial transfer and collaboration between OPIs, companies, and society and stimulating the participation of the business sector in scientific-technological infrastructures, as well as public-private collaboration for the development of business i-R+D+i, simplifying and streamlining administrative procedures, among others.

The Government of the Canary Islands has established a roadmap to lay the foundations for a knowledge economy. This is Canarias Progreso 2030, a document open to the collaboration of the entire ecosystem that provides the springs and resources to lay the foundations for research and innovation that meets the needs of Canarian society.

At the same time, it promotes four fundamental pillars to develop the knowledge economy in the Islands: a new Canarian Science Law, a new Canarian Smart Specialization Strategy (S4), a new R&D Plan and a Pact for Science , unpublished in the Archipelago.
