The South Atlantic Performing Arts Market, MAPAS, has selected 250 artistic proposals linked to music and the performing arts to participate in the business conferences and in the exhibition samples or showcases, among the more than 3,000 projects from 74 countries that applied for the 2022 edition Organized by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, unahoramenos and Circulart, MAPAS 2022 will be held in Gran Canaria and Tenerife from July 4 to 9.
Of the 250 projects that will be present at the fifth edition of MAPAS, 107 correspond to musical proposals from different origins of the geographical area in which MAPAS operates, that is, Africa, Latin America and Southern Europe, with special attention to the Canary Islands; and another 13 performing arts, among those selected by the curatorial committees for the business conferences, and those that have been invited to the art shows. In the MAPAS 2022 business roundtables, 237 artistic groups will attend, of which 137 are performing arts, between theater, dance and street arts, and 100 music in different formats and styles. Of all the groups, 57 are from the Canary Islands. Similarly, the organization and the curatorial committees selected 25 agencies, production, management or booking companies, including five with headquarters in the Canary Islands.
Regarding the artistic sample of the market, there will be 57 proposals that are included in the MAPAS 2022 program, 44 in the music showcases, and another 13 performing arts productions.
Headquarters
The business roundtables and the music showcases will be held from July 4 to 6 in different spaces and locations on the island of Gran Canaria: the Miller building, in the Santa Catalina park, will be the setting for the business roundtables, while the showcases will take place in the facilities of the Insular Sports Center, in the capital of Gran Canaria; and in open spaces in Agaete and Arucas, which join the MAPAS project. The activity of the performing arts market will take place in Tenerife from July 7 to 9: the business conferences, in the Library of Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, TEA; and the theater, dance and street art performances are distributed between the Auditorio de Tenerife, Teatro Guimerá, Espacio R and Espacio La Granja.
Regarding the origin of the artistic proposals selected for this fifth edition of MAPAS, in the case of music, it is worth highlighting the more than 40 Spaniards, including the Canary Islands, in the business roundtable; followed by Latin America, with 31, and another 18 from the African continent; and the rest, to a lesser extent, from other sources.
