SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 11 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Red Cross has launched the NOW + LA PALMA project, financed by the Adey Foundation, to promote the employability, social integration and economic situation of families who are unemployed due to the effects of the volcanic eruption.

The program tries to promote the integration of affected people through individualized attention, offering users guidance and job training, as well as transportation and mobility assistance that facilitate said training and job placement, all focused on job search that prevent the development of situations of social exclusion.

This training is related to the professional training of each person, following a personalized training itinerary that includes from workshops on economics and domestic savings, the use of new technologies and digital updating, to the development of technical labor skills adjusted to the demand of the labor market and individual interests.

The training itinerary, although it is individualized, broadly speaking, will offer technical skills, basic skills (curriculum vitae, cover letter, job search tools, etc.) and personal skills (social and communication skills) and professional training , through regulated training (high school and high school degrees) as well as through non-regulated training (referrals to academies for professional certifications, technological literacy, food handler, phytosanitary, type B card, etc.)

In addition, the project provides family spaces that help promote conciliation during job training, as well as psychological support and emotional education, basic resources for the development of families. Likewise, training actions are offered related to psychosocial aspects such as empowerment, self-esteem, social skills, emotional management, conflict resolution, coping strategies in stressful situations, among others.

In this project, the objective has been set to serve some 80 family units, with an estimate of 3 members for each of them, which would make a total of approximately 120 people.

Iván Acosta, Red Cross employment technician in La Palma and responsible for the project, pointed out that the start-up NOW + LA PALMA is “one more step in the commitment made by the Red Cross and the Adey Foundation with the families of the Aridane Valley “. “With this project, we intend to promote the socioeconomic context of the region, helping affected people to improve their employability through information, training and job guidance, for their professional requalification” he explained.

Ylenia Peña, a psychologist at NOW + LA PALMA, indicated that knowledge of the available resources, improvement of their personal tools and professional requalification “will allow users to be in connection with the current labor market and reduce the social difficulties derived from the loss of their livelihoods.

All those families who find themselves in this situation can request more information through the emails: [email protected] or [email protected], and the telephone number 663 703 762.

ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL CARE

Since last September 30, the Organization has not ceased its activity, providing social assistance and covering the basic needs of a total of 5,410 people.

More than 13,000 aids have been distributed, both goods and economic aid, among which stand out, for example, the delivery of economic aid for the rehabilitation of homes damaged by the volcanic eruption and the effects derived from it.

In addition, the Red Cross continues to develop a wide variety of projects in the short, medium and long term in order to support and assist the people affected by the eruption that occurred in La Palma, and thus contribute to their recovery, putting special attention to children, the elderly and families who have suffered the total loss of their homes and means of subsistence.

Among the priorities of the Red Cross are guaranteeing food security and the health of the population (both those installed in temporary accommodation resources, such as those relocated with family or friends, or those who have already been able to return to their homes), the psychosocial support, access to social rights, the return and rehabilitation of housing, employment support, school support and leisure activities for boys and girls in La Palma, as well as coverage of educational and material needs school or technology, among others.
