The squatters of the Tabaiba building, in San Isidro (Passion fruit), have filed more than a dozen complaints against the company unoccupied, which for a week has been inviting them to abandon its 48 homes, allegedly bought by a Romanian businessman. In these complaints there is talk of “threats” and “extortion”, and a “restraining order” is requested, as explained by Israel Ojel, one of the members of the anti-eviction platforms that are supporting the neighbors, according to him, in a situation of vulnerability and social exclusion.

From the City Council of Granadilla it is reported that they do not have powers in housing and that their obligation is to transfer the demands from Social Services to the Government of the Canary Islands. He also denies that Desokupa was granted permission to enter the building and cut the network of the water tanks located on the roof. “They only registered a petition in the SAC, but they were not answered, much less given permission,” he said.

According to Daniel Esteve, representative of the Desokupa company, “they have tanks with thousands of liters of water that can damage the structure of the building.” In addition, he explains the action “before the neglect of the institutions and the impossibility on the part of the State Security Corps and Forces to enforce the law. The owner of the building is faced with a public order problem: more than 18,000 kilos of weight that are in danger on the roofs that illegal tenants have installed, ”he pointed out in OK Diario.

Given the danger of collapse, Desokupa has tried to report the emptying of the water on the terrace and has tried to put a special door with the refusal of the neighbors. “Your documentation is peeling me,” the defiant squatters have responded. “Get out, get out”, they have shouted in front of the Local Police and the Civil Guard. “You are the ones who break the law,” they have shouted. Since then, the neighbors take turns outside the building so that Desokupa does not achieve his goal.

Ojel insists that “unoccupied it is violating the law, with a radical discourse, without a court order that allows them to enter the building, without a trial having taken place before -in some cases scheduled for May 17-, with a parallel justice”, although it recognizes that “the Government of the Canary Islands could also file a complaint against them”, fearing that “a DNA of hate will continue to grow in San Isidro, since they say they come as mediators, when they do not bring lawyers, but thugs”.
