The president of the Tenerife Historical Memory Association, Mercedes Pérez Schwartz, was clear yesterday about the remodeling project of the source of the Monument to Franco, which has been presented by the Public Services area. “There are not two options, there is only one, and that is to remove the monument to Franco,” said Pérez Schwartz in relation to the project’s options, with or without the central angel of the fountain. “The law is clear, you have to remove it and that’s it, and also the shields. Later, if they want to leave the fountain, let them leave it, but there is no other option but to remove it”.

Mercedes Pérez Schwartz is also preparing the presentation of the Catalog of vestiges of Santa Cruz commissioned by the Historical Memory Technical Commission. The president of the Historical Memory Association reported that work is being done to have this paper ready by the end of May, once the initial one-month deadline that had been provided has been extended.

Pérez Schwartz explained to DIARIO DE AVISOS that he is working to reduce the size of the Catalogue, which exceeds 3,000 pages, “something unfathomable”, for which a more manageable document has been proposed, like the one that other autonomous communities already have. The revision of the same will allow to fix the elements that must be withdrawn or include concepts included in the Law.
