SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 6 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –

Starting this Friday, the Parliament of the Canary Islands hosts the second edition of ‘Ilustradoras&Ilustradas’, a collective exhibition that brings together works by women artists in more than one hundred panels.

At the opening ceremony, the president of the Chamber, Gustavo Matos, valued the enormous quality of each of these works and stressed that history “has unfairly hidden that surprising, rich and varied gaze of women artists.” .

The Deputy of the Common of the Canary Islands, Rafael Yanes, the Special Deputy for Equality between Women and Men and Gender Violence of the Diputación del Comun, Beatriz Barrera, and the president of the Canarian Cinema + Comics Foundation, Francisco Pomares, took part in the act.

In his speech, Matos remarked that ‘Ilustradoras&Ilustradas 2’ “consolidates that there is a different perspective in the world of comics and illustration” and recalled that last year, this exhibition was “a real surprise after becoming one of the most visited and the ones that have aroused the most interest”.

The president highlighted the commitment to “promote that the Parliament’s exhibition hall be opened up to other forms of artistic expression” and indicated that in this tenth legislature, which marks the 40th anniversary of parliamentarism and self-government in the Canary Islands, “four decades in which the role of women has been decisive”, they want to make the Chamber “a closer space and a meeting point for society”.

He also announced that the institution “will support the celebration of a third edition of this overwhelming exhibition.”

Also the Deputy of the Common, Rafael Yanes, valued the actions that are developed in favor of equality between women and men and recalled the work that the institution he represents develops in this regard.

He especially highlighted the talent of the women seen in this exhibition, “the beautiful landscape of artistic creation that it entails.”

The deputy for Equality, Beatriz Barrera, pointed out that exhibitions like this “reveal the goal of the legislature to make Parliament the home of everyone” and stressed that these works of art “are also a way of life”.

UNTIL MAY 30

For his part, Francisco Pomares valued the fact that there are “hundreds of ways of interpreting: from the perspective of fantasy, realism or that multiplicity of visions” and considered “this multiplicity of visions surprising”.

The exhibition is organized by the Fundación Cine+Cómics and the Moebius Cultural Chair of the University of La Laguna, curated by Camila Pomares. It is sponsored by the Parliament of the Canary Islands, the Common Council, the La Caixa Foundation and the support of the Cabildo de Tenerife through its Tenerife Violeta programme.

As in its first edition, ‘Ilustradoras & Ilustradas 2’ will also have a catalog that will be presented at the Parliament of the Canary Islands during the time the exhibition is on.

The exhibition can be visited until May 30, from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and also on Saturdays in the morning.
