Podemos allies with CC and PP to stop the start of the works of the Motor Circuit

Sí Podemos Canarias, despite its external support for the government of council (PSOE and Cs), allies with Canarian Coalition and the Popular Party to knock down the item of 5.1 million destined for the iStart of works on the Motor Circuit, in the South of the Island. The lack of consensus among the political groups also leaves 126 million unexecuted in the insular coffers from the remaining treasury of the previous year. It was planned to invest them in different projects of general interest. It was the surprise in the plenary session of the debate on the state of the Island. In this context, the island president, Pedro Martín, takes stock of his three years in office with a phrase: “Tenerife is better.” Among the proposals for resolutions approved – 50 were presented, 10 per political group. It is worth noting that of forming pacts with the extreme right. Supported by 27 directors and with the abstention of the PP (Yesterday Águeda Fumero was absent).

The government group brought to the plenary a modification of credits to several projects with the support of PSOE, Cs and Sí Podemos Canarias. CC presented a proposal with 44 projects and an amount of 87 million euros. They voted against PSOE, Sí Podemos Canarias and Cs; the PP abstained.

Within the projects of the government group, there was a departure of 5.1 million euros for the Motor Circuit. CC asked that this money be prioritized for the Poverty Plan. It continues to support the circuit because there is an item of 1.1 million euros in the 2022 budget and the nationalists request that the work be speeded up. But they understand that asking for 5 million more to execute it in seven months “is deceiving people.” Now they see “it is more necessary to attend to people who are having a hard time.” That is why CC presented a technical amendment so that the 5.1 million were destined for the Comprehensive Program for Poverty with the support of the PP and Sí Podemos Canarias. It would have been approved but the secretary did not admit it and did not allow it to be voted on. CC reserves the right to claim administratively.

By rejecting the secretary, Sí Podemos Canarias changed its vote. They were in favor of the 5.1 million for poverty) and against the Motor Circuit. The government group’s proposal was not approved by 13 votes in favor (PSOE + Cs) and 17 against (CC + PP + SPC).

The nationalists summarize their criticism in that the Insular Corporation has 126 million euros “and they are not invested by the lack of leadership of PSOE». The nationalist spokesman, Carlos Alonso, explains that the Cabildo has “141 million euros remaining from last year, of which 15 have to be allocated to debt, with which there are 126 to invest.”

CC-PNC criticizes that there are 126 million euros without investing “due to lack of leadership of the PSOE”

The PSOE of Tenerife regrets, through a statement “that CC rejects the Motor Circuit.” Ciudadanos (Cs), through its leader, Enrique Arriaga, denounces “that the opposition paralyzes vital projects for the Island.” He adds that “Canarian Coalition and Popular Party are going to have to give explanations to the people of Tenerife.”

In addition to the Motor Circuit, projects such as compensation for the extra cost of transport to titsa, to maintain current fare prices; the increase in sports subsidies or the improvement of various facilities. Arriaga denounces “the inconsistency of the Canarian Coalition regarding the Motor Circuit». He criticizes that CC, PP and Sí Podemos Canarias “stop, by a simple headline, the progress of the Island by voting against the budget modification that contained important contributions to help companies as well as employment and transportation projects.” But, concludes the vice president, “the list of actions that cannot be carried out is very long.

Among the resolution proposals approved, the agreement not to sign pacts with the extreme right stands out. Before, without a time limit, President Martín unravels for several hours the benefits of his stage at the head of the institution. He breaks down almost three years into twelve large sections, from the social to the primary sector. He does it in the plenary session –in its exact epigraph– on the General Orientation of the Insular Policy.

The best unemployment data since 2009

Pedro Martín announces «the best registered unemployment figure since January 2009». They correspond to last April, with 86,482 unemployed, when in March there were 87,598 and thirteen years ago, 86,359. The unemployment rate, according to the Active Population Survey (EPA), is also positive for Tenerife in the first quarter of the year, with 19.9%, the second lowest in the Canary Islands behind Fuerteventura and almost one point less than in Gran Canaria. The same happens with youth unemployment, in this case the lowest in the Archipelago, 50.03%, compared to the other capital island where it rises to 63.29%. Carlos Alonso refutes the president; “Tenerife has 10,000 more unemployed compared to June 2019 and 5,000 fewer employed people.” Within a tone of disagreement and acrimony, the president launches this sentence: “I don’t want leadership like yours.” He spoke of “ending the repeated hoaxes, the fake news” about that lack of leadership and the alleged non-execution of the budget. Martín assures that he thinks the same about the southern train: in favor, «but «it is not the time to face a project of 2,500 million cost»
