
The lagoon She is still determined to recover a tradition that, over the years, had been lost in the municipality, that of enraming crosses and chapels. Thanks to the efforts of many neighbors who, in a particular way, continued to maintain the tradition, this year new monuments have been added, four more than in 2021, to form a route composed of 58 stops between crosses and chapels.
Yesterday it was possible to enjoy a legacy of crosses of different types “that have been treasured for centuries and that have been preserved thanks to the love and care received. Splendid wooden crosses, made or covered in embossed silver, witnesses of historical events, carriers of security, protectors, reminders of misfortunes, markers of property limits… Crosses, in short, that are thrones of Jesus”, recalled the councilor of Historical Heritage, Elvira Jorge, during the presentation of the route of the crosses.
The crosses are located in churches, convents, hallways, patios and even several of them in the open air that are distributed between the town center and the towns and neighborhoods of the municipality.
From the Cruz del Calvario, in the Plaza de San Lázaro, through the Cruz de Goyo, on the Camino San Diego, or the Cruz del Adelantado, in the courtyard of the Torre de la Concepción, to the adorned chapels, such as the one in Salazar de Frías, in La Carrera street, or Cruz de los Herreros, in Quintín Benito, offered the possibility of strolling through the center enjoying the floral art that adorned them.
But the neighborhoods also offered the best on this Day of the Cross, such as the Fogalera Cross, in Jardina; the Cruz de Marca, in Finca España, or the Parochial Cross of Nuestra Señora del Pilar, in the Elfidio Alonso park, in the Torres de Taco.
The celebration of the Day of the Cross began with the reading of the proclamation on April 28 by Alberto Jorge de la Rosa, while the last act will be the Eucharist of the Holy Cross in memory of the citizens who died this year, which It will take place tomorrow, at 8:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Cruz de los Plateros.
