Hundreds of people crowded this Tuesday through the main roads of the touristic city to pay tribute to its patron saint, the Holy Cross, who took to the streets again in procession 1,095 days after a pandemic of which there was almost no trace today.

The Cross port he left behind the masks and the safety distances of previous years and lived his patron saint festivities with special intensity from early in the morning, when neighbors and visitors began to tour the 130 adorned posts and the 30 chapels distributed throughout the municipal geography.

The surroundings of the fishing dock, the Plaza del Charco and the area of La Ranilla, specifically, Mequinez Street, where the crosses of eight different groups were exhibited, were the most popular environments, in addition to those of each neighborhood.

The acts to entertain the Holy Cross began first thing in the morning with the Eucharistic ceremony in the Hermitage of Las Lonjas. At the end, the mayor of the city, Marco González, accompanied by a representative of the Municipal Corporation, recalled in his speech the importance of this annual meeting of the city with its origins and expressed “his pride in the recovery of all the acts that they identify the city with their cross in the streets”.

The acts continued with the floral offering to the holy wood of the municipal workers, located in the old convent of Santo Domingo and built last year with the leftover tea wood from the demolition works of the old San Francisco park, and the interpretation by the Municipal music band of the anthem dedicated to the city.

After the celebration of the Eucharist in the church of Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Francia, the Holy Cross paraded again in a procession through the streets of Porto accompanied by some 2,000 people, according to Local Police sources, and was entertained by the traditional fireworks who accompanied her on her usual route until she returned to the parish. Although her best tribute was to check the devotion that she generates in the citizens of Porto.
