Citizens (Cs) asks in the plenary session of the Debate on the state of the Island that the sports federations participate in the National Parks Commission and specifically in that of the Teide National Park.
The orange formation, led in the Canary Islands by Enrique Arriaga, includes this proposal “which would allow the environmental protection criteria to be reconciled with the use and enjoyment of natural spaces and the practice of sports by the population.”
The initiative proposes that the political groups urge that the representatives of the island and regional federations of mountaineering, cycling, motorcycling, motor racing and horse riding be included within the Commission.
Cs considers that “the protection and maintenance of protected areas and national parks is compatible with the development of sports activities and events, always in a responsible manner.”
This is the reason why the federations, representatives of important groups, must not only be heard but also form part of these governing bodies.
Enrique Arriaga recalls that within the Teide National Park Commission the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo de Tenerife, and representations of the Boards of National Parks of the other Islands participate. However, there are no representatives of users, tourism or sports in this area.
In the explanatory statement, Cs states that “every day the practice of sports in natural environments acquires greater relevance.” For this reason “the participation in these organizations of the different affected federations is necessary, with voice and vote in decision-making.”
The oranges in the Cabildo expose that “currently these decisions are based on technical criteria of an environmental nature but without attending to other concurrent perspectives.” Taking them into account would allow “reconciling protection with the use and enjoyment of natural spaces by the population.”
