García de la Casa sentences the 1st Optimist Las Teresitas International Regatta

Daniel García de la Casa (Catalan Sailing) has sentenced this Sunday the Las Teresitas International Regatta of the Optimist Class, whose first edition has finished this afternoon on the beach of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The women’s gold medal (sub16) goes to Gabriela Cañibano (RCN Arrecife), who finally finished 5th in the general classification. Cañibano also joins the Canarian team for the Spanish Cup.

The first Canarian sailor in sub 16 M is Jaime Lang Lento (RCN Gran Canaria), third after the also Catalan Joan Domingo. The gold medals in the under 13 categories go to Marta Mansito (RCN Tenerife) and Pedro Ugarte (RCNGC), respectively.

The Royal Canarian Sailing Federation organizes the Las Teresitas International Regatta together with the Insular Sailing Federation of Tenerife and the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife, with the support of the Tenerife Cabildo, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council and Naviera Armas.

The silver medals in the under 13 categories are, respectively, for Isabel Lang Lento and Cristian Ayoset Vega, both from the RCNGC. Silvia Medina (RCNGC) and Daniel Morán (RCNT) get the bronze.

The second and last day of competition in Las Teresitas has once again had excellent conditions for navigation; In the words of a member of the event’s technical team, this Sunday’s conditions have been “nice conditions” for a regatta. The wind was rising throughout Sunday until reaching peaks of 18-20 knots of intensity, although due to schedule requirements -many participants travel on Sunday afternoon- only two tasks were done, so the regatta closes with a total of 5 tests held of the 6 that had been scheduled.
