Ideas to do as a family in the Canary Islands on Mother’s Day

The first Sunday of May It is a day to celebrate as a family around mothers and also to thank the being that has given us life. It does not have a fixed date on the calendar, unlike Father’s Day (March 19), but it must be marked in red each year. The Mother’s Day in Spain it is always celebrated on the first Sunday of May.

The arrival of good weather with spring is also an excellent opportunity to make plans all together in the open air, although the good weather in Canary Islands allows that option practically every day of the year.

As it always falls on a Sunday and as it is not a day in which the vast majority of the population has to work, Mother’s Day is more likely to bring together all the members of the family. In the Canary Islands there are several proposals to do that day.

Tenerife

May is the month of the mother and also of flowers, one of the favorite gifts for mothers. One option is to go to 45th Exhibition of Flowers, Plants and Traditional Canarian Crafts at the García Sanabria Park in Santa Cruz of Tenerifewhich remains open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. until next Tuesday, May 3, a holiday in the capital of Tenerife.

The program of events for the May Festivities in Santa Cruz de Tenerife also includes the temporary exhibition dedicated to the Comparsa Danzarines Canarios on May 1 in the Rest Area of the Casa del Carnaval, in which, in addition, workshops will be held and a talk. At 6:00 p.m., Snow White children’s theater with lamps and chandeliers that act as puppets in the Guimerá Theatre. The work is aimed at all types of audiences.

Exploring Tenerife by bike is a good alternative to get to know and enjoy various landscapes and corners of the island of Teide. One of the modalities of mountain biking or mountanbike. The pine forests of Vilaflor, Las Lagunetas and Guía de Isora are some of the places that offer routes with different levels of difficulty.

One of them is to approach the Cheese Fair in Montaña Altaunder Guide (Gran Canaria), where in addition to the star product, they offer thousands of tastings at affordable prices Canarian sancocho, jaramagos stew, gofio pella, wrinkled potatoes and tortillas with honey. This year there is a free shuttle service that will leave from 9:30, every hour, from the car park located in front of the Bardo Urban Park, next to the Guide Market.

Another option is to do hiking through the impressive landscapes of the island of Gran Canariasuch as the routes offered by the Guide of Paths of the Midlands of Gran Canaria (Villa de Santa Brígida, Vega de San Mateo, Valsequillo and Tejeda) with great natural monuments, ravines and endemic flora and fauna, among other beauties.

With another geography different from that of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, Lanzarote It is an island that invites you to walk and enjoy its corners and landscapes between volcanoes (Timanfaya), salt flats (Janubio), fields of vineyards and wineries (La Geria) and mountains, such as the Los Ajaches Massif (Yaiza) or the Montaña de the Strip (Haría) where Hiking Lanzarote It has programmed an interpreted route of low difficulty to talk about the palm grove, the cultivation terraces or the Temisa Valley.

Lanzarote cannot be understood without the artist who turned the island into his own canvas, Cesar Manrique, who projected the considered jewels of the crown in that insular territory. It’s about the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo de Lanzaroteamong them Jameos del Agua, El Mirador del Río, the Castillo de San José or the Monumento al Campesino. Sunday can be a good day to meet them or visit them again. There is always something new to discover in those spaces.
