SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife has held the first working meeting of the Insular Board of Migrant Communities, a space that will serve to evaluate island policies aimed at migrants residing on the Island, as well as generate ideas and projects for the benefit of this group . Proposals will also be made to improve coexistence, generate ideas and projects and develop proposals for improvement.
The CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta, has assessed this meeting as “historic” for the Island. “For the first time we give migrants a voice, with real participation that will be effective,” he explained. Gugliotta also announced that the Cabildo is currently working on the preparation of a decalogue of proposals to improve attention to migration and that affects not only the Island Corporation, but also municipalities and other administrations.
The Minister wanted to remind that the Island and the entities have the Tenerife Isla Solidaria program as a “powerful tool to support the third sector”. In 2020, the Migrant Assistance Service was launched, through Tenerife Isla Solidaria, which currently works with more than 100 entities through different lines of action. This service has a contribution of approximately 140,000 euros and works with entities that represent migrants in Tenerife (20 groups) and entities that serve migrants or develop care projects with them (approximately 80 groups).
During the work table, from the Citizen Participation Area it was recalled that in 2021 the Cabildo launched the first line of subsidies for projects of interculturality and social inclusion of migrants, with an endowment of 210,000 euros, and that they generated and continue to generate numerous projects both last year and this 2022.
