The residents of San Andrés demonstrate on May 7 for a dignified health

Next Saturday, May 7, the residents of San Andrés will take to the streets again to defend what they believe to be fair. On this occasion, the reason is the poor health care that, they say, they receive from the Ministry of Health, which has not addressed their multiple complaints about the operation of the town’s Medical Office, complaints that were reflected in the collection of 600 signatures which they sent to the Government of the Canary Islands.

The protest will leave the plaza of the church of San Andrés at 11 in the morning, to go through Avelino Delgado street, continue along Dique avenue in the direction of the Taganana highway, and from there to the Cultural Center where a manifesto will be read . “The neighbors require guarantees in health that allow them to live in peace, aware that they can count on efficient material and professional means”, can be read in the document that.

The El Pescador Neighborhood Association recalls that the current office was built in the 1990s “thanks to neighborhood demands, to serve not only Saint Andrew, but also to San José de Suculum and Igueste. This requires a center that has minimum requirements both materially and humanly, trained, with health workers willing to serve us professionally, with empathy towards patients, with always cordial treatment that respects the patient and their problems the background of these behaviors, ”adds the manifesto.

They demand that there be a second doctor to avoid that “when the doctor leaves his post to attend home visits, he leaves the neighbors waiting for him to return, which may be many hours later.”

In addition, they demand that there be a pediatrician in the afternoon, as well as better treatment of the neighbors, a better redistribution of the space in the building, and a permanent emergency service at night and on weekends.
