The work of the Paseo de Las Galletas will begin “immediately”

The vice president of the Cabildo and insular councilor for Roads, Enrique Arriaga, confirmed yesterday the “immediate” start of the works on the Las Galletas seafront and announced that the works will last a month.
On August 20, the strong waves caused the partial collapse of the pedestrian avenue, in front of the pier, as the retaining wall was damaged, which led the Arona City Council to convert the TF-66 into a one-way street for entrance to Las Galletas.

“We have to act quickly to prevent spring tides from continuing to erode the structural elements of the containment system and completely sink the road,” said Arriaga, who considers a priority to give stability to the road, as well as to complete the filling of the road. road area that collapsed. For this, the Cabildo has decreed the emergency of the works.

The insular director of Roads, Tomás Félix García, indicated that to guarantee the safety of the works, which will foreseeably begin before next weekend, it will be necessary to make specific cuts in the road and circulate with alternative traffic. “It is essential to strictly comply with the setting and foundation times,” he stressed. The budget for this emergency action is 178,873 euros and its completion is expected in 30 days.

Worry

The Arona City Council last week conveyed to the Cabildo its concern about the possibility that the works overlap with the start of the school year, scheduled for next week, an extreme that will be inevitable and that will force the City Council to reorganize traffic in Las Cookies and on the road that communicates with El Fraile. The Association of Neighbors of Las Galletas has also expressed its concern about the deadlines of the works and its impact on the economy of the shops, in the middle of the summer season, for which it asks for the “maximum speed” in the execution of the work.
