SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 25 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

This Monday, Tenerife began its presence at the thirty-fifth edition of the ‘Salón Gourmets’, which will be held in Madrid until next Thursday, with a tasting of wines from the Güímar and La Orotava valleys and the participation of two of its cheeses in the final of the Contest of the Best Cheeses of Spain, whose resolution will be announced throughout the week.

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Javier Parrilla, defends the “prestige” that Tenerife products have on the national scene and assures that “their quality can and should generate a new line of marketing towards the gourmet product” , because although they may be everyday products, “for the continent they are highly valued high-end products.”

The Tenerife stand, with a space of 15×3 meters and 11 exhibitors, was visited by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas; the General Director of Food, Miguel Herrero, and the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, Alicia Vanoostende.

At 10:00 a.m., the ‘Salón Gourmets’ space for talks about the Canary Islands was inaugurated with a tasting of wines from the Güímar and La Orotava valleys, led by two technicians from these appellations of origin, Óscar Rodríguez and Marián Fernández, respectively.

The Valle de La Orotava wines were dry white Chivita, from Bodega La Viñita, and barrel-fermented Arautava, from Arautava Wines. In the case of Valle de Güímar, attendees were able to enjoy a 1,400 white barrel-fermented and the red Brumas de Ayosa.

In addition to authorities, numerous professionals from the hotel industry, importers and visitors also passed through the Tenerife stand, who were able to learn about and taste some of the best products from the primary sector of Tenerife, such as extra virgin olive oil, cheese, honey, liquors or wines.

Also participating in this edition of the ‘Salón Gourmets’ are the other four designations of origin for wines that operate on the island (Abona, Tacoronte-Acentejo, Ycoden-Daute-Isora and Las Islas Canarias), in addition to the La Vieja homemade liqueur factory Liquor store, located in La Esperanza; the Quesería de Benijos, with goat and cow cheeses, or their mixtures and the multifloral, chestnut and heather honeys of the El Productor brand, made by the beekeeper Juan Carlos Martín Robles and framed within the Miel de Tenerife PDO.

Likewise, Piedra Alta is present, a superior category extra virgin olive oil, specialized in the picual and arbequina variety, which is produced in an artisanal way in Jardina (La Laguna).

“Tomorrow, Tuesday, a meeting will be held with olive growers from Tenerife, with the aim of generating synergies and continuing to promote the promotion of this strategic sector and the quality of the products,” the minister said in a note.

In total, the thirty-fifth edition of the ‘Salón Gourmets’ includes 45,636 square meters in which the presence of more than 1,600 exhibitors and an approximate number of 70,000 professional visitors is expected, and 800 activities will be carried out and more than 40,000 products can be seen .

The event will also include the participation of 120 importers expressly invited by the Organization from 38 countries and with whom a total of 2,400 meetings have been planned.
