The president of the Tenerife builders, Óscar Izquierdo, described as “hopeful” the forecast of more than 500 million investment (400 from the private initiative and more than 100 from the public) for the port of Granadilla announced last Wednesday by the president of the Port Authority. In his opinion, this amount shows that the southern facility, still under construction, has enough potential to become a dynamic focus of the Tenerife economy.

“You just have to be willing and set the sufficient and efficient conditions for its development to be complete, which has not happened until now for political and ideological reasons; now a hopeful impulse is noticeable”, the president of the Federation of Construction Entities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife told this newspaper yesterday (Fepeco).

For Izquierdo, it is time to clear up doubts about the construction of the industrial port and “turn to the facts of its usefulness, because in an island territory this type of infrastructure always provides added value to our production system and ensures commercial and industrial logistics that brings peace of mind”, which leads the president of the Tenerife builders to a conclusion: “It has gone from no to the port of Granadilla to yes to its necessity”.

forecasts

The president of the Port Authority, Carlos González, highlighted in a business forum the 100 million euro investment by Petrocan, which will shortly begin the transfer of the Cepsa facilities to Granadilla, where it will occupy an area of 12 hectares and the 150 million expected by the Canary Islands Hydrogen Hub, which will be installed on a similar extension.

The private investment is completed with another 104 million from the first offshore wind farm to be processed in Spain, which will consist of five wind turbines, and 40 million more to install two floating docks, although one of them will be for the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife .

In terms of public investment, the two major projects underway, which are expected to be financed with European funds, will be the 577 meters built with 12 concrete caissons to close the riverside wharf (70 million euros) and various experimentation plans , with new prototypes for floating wind power and harnessing the waves.
