SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 20 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The four autonomous deputies of Sí Podemos Canarias have announced this Wednesday that they will not attend tomorrow, Thursday, the institutional act chaired in the Parliament of the Canary Islands by the president of the Congress, Meritxell Batet, in protest at the withdrawal of Alberto Rodríguez from the seat.
In an audio broadcast by the purple coalition through social networks, the spokesman, Manuel Marrero, has criticized Batet’s “unilateral decision” to withdraw the act despite the “forceful” report by the Lower House lawyers who advocated keep Rodríguez in his position.
Thus, he commented that “there were no reasons” to withdraw the seat once Rodríguez had paid the fine of 540 euros after his conviction by the Supreme Court for the crime of attacking an agent of the authority during a demonstration in La Laguna.
According to Marrero, the president’s decision creates a “great precedent” that supposes the “verification” of the “lack of protection” of public representatives, while it is an “attack” on the 65,000 canaries who elected him in the elections .
The deputies of Sí Podemos have requested a meeting with the president of Congress to learn first-hand her version of events.
