SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Territory Planning and Historical Heritage area, has commissioned an archaeological study on the remains of the Barranco de Milán, in Tejina, in La Laguna.

The works will last approximately three months, and have been awarded to the Comprehensive Management of Culture and Historical Heritage company, whose technicians will carry out an exhaustive analysis of the site to learn about the current archaeological reality.

The prospecting in the area will be carried out under the coordination of the Historical Heritage technical service of the island corporation “and its results will determine the feasibility of initiating a file for its subsequent declaration, by the Government of the Canary Islands, as an Asset of Cultural Interest with the category of archaeological zone, in favor of the Milan ravine”, indicates the insular director, Emilio Fariña, who clarifies that it is a question of a historical demand from the residents of Tejina “with whom work meetings have been held in the who have transferred their request to the Cabildo to carry out an in-depth archaeological study in the area”.

On the other hand, the island official points out that “the decision to commission this study is a clear manifestation of the commitment of the island corporation to value the archaeological heritage and comply with the Cultural Heritage Law of the Canary Islands.”

From the archaeological point of view, there are references to the presence of numerous sites, mainly dwelling caves and funerary caves in the ravine, and with this exploration it will be possible to know “technically and scientifically the current archaeological reality in this area,” he highlights in a note.

From the City Council of La Laguna, the mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, underlines “the opportunity of this study to know exactly the value of the archaeological remains of the Barranco de Milán and its importance in the whole of the Archaeological Charter of Tenerife, also responding to the commitment that was acquired with the neighbors of Tejina to guarantee its integrity and its correct dissemination”.

ASSET OF CULTURAL INTEREST IN THE FUTURE

Thus, he hopes that this work will lead to a subsequent declaration of this enclave as a Site of Cultural Interest.

The mayor appreciates “the close collaboration with the Cabildo de Tenerife for bringing to light and favoring the protection of the archaeological heritage that exists in La Laguna, and that is reflected not only in Tejina, but in different places in the municipality where we come working”.

The prospecting work will be extended to the entire area of the ravine, covering its entire channel, between the roundabout of the TF-13, at the height of the Manisero pond and its mouth, including those steepest and most difficult to access sectors, in order to exhaustively specify the number of existing sites, their state of conservation and their archaeological and scientific potential.

In addition to the studies carried out on the ground, drone flight exploration will also be added to capture photos and videos, especially in the steepest areas of the terrain.
