SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 18 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The hotel and non-hotel establishments associated with Ashotel closed this Easter with positive data that raise the average occupancy on the island of Tenerife to 86.25% in the period between April 10 and 17.

According to the provisional data of the survey carried out by the hotel management through its Tourism Competitiveness and Sustainability Observatory, this figure represents eight points more than the forecasts from the beginning of April for this holiday period.

In the case of the other islands in the province, La Palma improved its forecasts and closed last week at an average of 80.3%, after almost two very difficult years, not only due to the effects of the pandemic itself, but also due to the subsequent crisis caused by the volcanic eruption.

La Gomera also experienced a positive performance, with an average occupancy rate of 90.6%. Finally, El Hierro increased its occupancy to 83.1%, positive data that has exceeded initial forecasts.

CAUDENT OPTIMISM

Entrepreneurs in the sector analyze these data with satisfaction, but prefer to be cautious when it comes to ensuring that tourism has already recovered pre-pandemic figures after these two harsh years of global crisis.

Ashotel recalls that the geopolitical scenario in Europe is complicated by the war in Ukraine, as well as some of its direct effects, such as the rise in energy prices, despite the measures that the Government of Spain is implementing to mitigate it .

The employers emphasize that these data refer to a very short period of time (5-7 holidays) within a 30-day month, so the behavior of the issuing markets for the following months cannot be extrapolated.

In addition, he warns that after Easter the occupation traditionally falls until the summer season begins, at the end of June. For this reason, the eyes are now focused on how the summer is presented with the external elements that are negatively influencing the sector, such as the increase in the prices of supplies and the transport of people and goods, or the uncertainty generated by the war in Ukraine.

The desire to travel has materialized in many cases, but Ashotel considers that it is always necessary to act with the necessary caution in the face of the clouds that still circulate on the international scene.
