The Cabildo de Tenerife promotes, together with the municipalities of the Island, an Insular Pact for Youth with which it is intended to achieve a series of commitments to promote youth policies that promote and facilitate training, job placement and personal growth of youth Tenerife. One of the objectives of this document is that this sector of the population can develop their personal projects as fully realized citizens.
The Minister of Youth, Concepción Rivero, pointed out that this agreement will serve to design, support and coordinate lines of youth policies that respond to the needs and demands. Rivero explained that this group “needs the whole of society to overcome the enormous challenges they face.” And she added that the Cabildo works in a coordinated manner with all the municipalities of Tenerife to contribute, as local administrations, to improving the life expectancies of youth.
In the Insular Table held this morning, the II Plan for Youth Houses was also addressed, which will be carried out by the Cabildo with which the rehabilitation of youth houses will be promoted and financed, and redefine their concept and objective as the backbone of insular and municipal youth policies. In addition, the conclusions of the technical table, made up of Youth technical personnel from all over the Island, were presented.
The insular director of Youth, Isabel Bello, explained that youth “demand that local administrations coordinate to give answers to the problems that affect them and that become vital obstacles such as lack of training or experience that makes it difficult for them to access to the labor market and in turn access to housing, key to achieving emancipation and starting the life project to which everyone aspires”. “From Youth now we must focus on what is important, on putting this generation of young people on the march towards their future. There is no time to lose,” she added.
The second edition of the Ponos project, orientation and first job opportunity for young people, was also presented at the Island Board. The Insular Councilor and Director invited all the municipalities, through their youth councillors, to get involved around said youth employment project with coordinated actions.
“The task that we all have ahead of us in relation to youth employment is immense, it makes no sense to face it in any other way than being united and coordinated so that Tenerife is truly a land of opportunities for its young people,” explained Bello.
Likewise, the need to recover leisure and free time activities, which were totally annulled by COVID, was discussed.
