The general secretary of Canarian Coalition (DC) in TenerifeFrancisco Linares calls it “impossible” for his training to achieve government agreements and pacts with VOX after the 2023 elections.

“We share absolutely nothing, we are not considering signing any agreement or pact with a party that is antagonistic to our political position and in the concept of Canary Islands“, he points out.

The mayor of La Orotava also recognizes that it is an issue that “has not been raised within the organization” but makes it clear that both parties are “at the opposite end of the spectrum”, giving as an example that VOX does not believe in autonomy or in the differences between territories.

“They have precepts that we neither share nor believe, that model of Spain and the Canary Islands is not the one we have at all,” he says.

In that line he indicates “they don’t even” know who is directing the party in Tenerife and Canary Islands and have “never” spoken to anyone or had any contact, so rules out the possibility of signing a tripartite to rule the Council of Tenerife. “It does not fit into our keys or into our scheme for the future,” she points out.

Linares maintains that CC is open to agreements with all political forces of the islands except with VOX because “today” they have no ideological affinity, and highlights that in Tenerife they have government pacts in Mayors with Sí se puede, Cs, PSOE and PP.

“Agreements are all possible”, he comments, while recalling how with the PSOE it was co-governed for eight years in the Cabildo de Tenerife and almost two legislatures in the Canary Islands Government until “it did not go well due to internal disquisitions”.

Thus, he points out that in 2023 “there will be few absolute majorities” which will force “everyone” to sit down and talk and try to reach the best possible agreements.
