Easter Florida: art and religion in the most original proposal

The twelfth edition of Easter Guia de Isora kicked off yesterday, after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, with a performance at noon by the Daniel Abreu National Dance Award. Hundreds of people gathered in the old town of the southern municipality to contemplate the 22 works of the different specialists in floral art that participate in the activity, as well as to enjoy the many performances planned within the framework of it. It is one of the most original celebrations of Holy Week in Tenerife, in which religion and art are mixed.

The mayor of Guía de Isora, Josefa Mesa, applauded the tenacity of the artists who make Easter possible. In the photos, several of them prepare their works. | ed

Easter, which arose to combine culture with a tradition as deeply rooted as the steps of Holy Week in the surroundings of the Isorano town, has established itself as a unique event in Spain in its category and adds in each edition new plastic artists and international floral schools. Carlos Curbelo, director of the event, assures that nearly 15,000 flowers have been used to carry out the assemblies that are exhibited during Easter.

For her part, the mayor of Isora, Josefa Mesa, who opened the opening day yesterday with a brief speech to neighbors and visitors, highlighted the work of all the people involved in organizing the event: “Thank the artists and the volunteers , who after two years without being able to carry out Easter, have shown a lot of desire and involvement to make it possible». The City Council, as explained by the mayor, aims for Easter, “already consolidated”, to continue along the same lines: “We want to continue betting on complementing floral art with recreational activities such as dance, theater or opera.”

Apart from the 22 works exhibited in the streets of the historic center of Guía de Isora, parallel activities are also held. For example, today, at 11:00 am and 12:00 pm, in Tagoro Street, there will be a monologue Defense of Pilate, with Leandro González García. At 11:30 and 12:30, on Calle de Arriba, the monologue María Magdalena, by Soraya González (Delirium Teatro), will be held. Meanwhile, at 1:00 p.m., in the Plaza de Nuestra Señora de la Luz, a performance by Burka Teatro. Throughout the day and until 5:00 p.m., on Calle de Abajo, Salvador Ortega will perform the Goodbye to Life.

Tomorrow, Saturday, at 12 noon, in the Plaza, the Chamber Group of the Virgen de la Luz Band will perform. In addition, with the intention of helping the economic reactivation, Easter will be complemented by the gastronomic route Sabores de Primavera: Picar sin Pecar Edition, which will take place until Sunday, as well as from the 21st to the 24th and from the 28th of this month to May 1. A score of bars, taverns and restaurants have joined this initiative in which tapas and drinks are offered for 3.50 euros.
