A road will relieve traffic in Los Cristianos on the most critical day of the year. GIVES

After the boarding of 9,200 passengers and 2,600 vehicles last weekend during the first phase of the departure operation, the port of Los Cristianos is facing the second large wave of shipments to La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro since yesterday. Up to 3,257 vehicles will transport Fred shipping companies in 24 hours. Olsen and Armas to the Western Isles.

But the great litmus test that the southern dock will face will be next Sunday, with the return operation, where the highest density of vehicles of the year will foreseeably be recorded, as a large part of the flow returning to the Island will be concentrated in the middle of the afternoon.

With the aim of avoiding the circulatory collapse of previous years, the Port Authority and the City Council of Arona will launch an unprecedented device that will consist of enabling an alternative exit route from the port to the motorway. The “anti-traffic jam” measure, which has already been considered in 2020, will consist of joining the TF-1 from the Chayofita roundabout, to the left, in the area known as Llanos de Troya, thus sharing the exit traffic that traditionally they are carried out, precisely from Chayofita avenue.

Special operation due to the influx of traffic in Los Cristianos

Both the Port Authority and the City Council of Arona, which have already installed the information signs to indicate the new way out of Los Cristianos, are confident that the measure, far from being a definitive solution, will facilitate circulation between the aronero wharf and the freeway. In addition, the port entity will reinforce the presence of police inside the enclosure, while the number of municipal agents in the city will also increase.

The shipping companies will also collaborate in the plan, since they will inform their passengers about the alternative exit route during the journey back to Tenerife. Fred Olsen and Armas will project the start plans on their on-board monitors and report over the public address system. Fred. Olsen will even reinforce the message by sending an SMS to travelers.

The Arona City Council has been demanding, for years, public resources to bury the traffic from Chayofita Avenue to practically the highway, a project that includes the installation, in the upper part, of the new transport interchange and a large boulevard.
