Bathers returned to Bajamar beach SERGIO MÉNDEZ

Bathers were able to enjoy the Bajamar beachon the lagoon coast, which reopened after eight months of closure due to the repair work on the dam, after the Cabildo de Tenerife has confirmed to the local Corporation that the work that remains pending will not affect this coastal area.

Specifically, the councilor Beaches and Pools of the City Council of La Laguna, Cristina Ledesma, specified yesterday that the reopening of the Bajamar beach took place around 4:00 p.m., once the last pending administrative procedures of the Cabildo were completed, as well as the last technical review in situ. Although the councilor pointed out that yesterday it was not possible to access the area behind the lighthouse, neither the jetty nor its steps, due to the strong waves that there were, so these points were fenced to prevent access for security reasons.

The City Council had announced this past weekend the reopening of the beach today, to which Ledesma explained that, although the forecast was to open the bathing area today, it was finally decided to bring it forward to yesterday because “the appropriate security guarantees were given and from the Cabildo de Tenerife we have been informed that the missing works do not affect this space”.

Bajamar beach, a historical demand

The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, valued that “the planned schedule of the action has been met” so that the beach can be put into service just at the beginning of Holy Week, when the influx in the coastal nucleus begins to grow. The local councilor thanked the Island Corporation for its involvement in responding “to the historical demand of Bajamar”, as well as the neighbors and neighbors “for the patience they have maintained during these months of work”. “Finally, citizens can once again enjoy bathing in the open sea; now, moreover, with greater peace of mind, because it will be protected from strong waves”, he celebrated.

The commissioning also coincided “with the start of a social initiative that we wanted to support and that will take place throughout the week,” said the councilor. This is River Flow & Ocean Flow, a pilot project carried out by a team of German and Austrian psychologists who will give surfing classes, together with a lagoon company, for therapeutic purposes to improve the physical and psychological health of the participants. .
