Some infrastructures that are damaged by the passage of timesince this area was urbanized more than 40 years ago, with hardly any maintenance work carried out in recent decades.

The first deputy mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo Gonzalez (PP)and the councilor responsible for the Contracting area, Noelia Gonzalez (PP)visited this week the urbanization La Romántica II, in the surroundings of Toscal Longueraand recalled that the deadline for the admission of offers from companies interested in executing these works It will end on April 28..

Adolf Gonzalez explains that with this first project that will act on Las Palmeras, Los Claveles and Las Mimosas streets, since the action in Las Rosas street will require a specific and differentiated project in which the Consistory of Los Realejos is already working. This first phase in three key roads for La Romántica II aims to remodel a developed urban area on the coast of Los Realejos in the 70s of the last centurywhere hardly any rehabilitation interventions have been carried out.

The Romantic II It was conceived as a tourist space that for many years has had an exclusively residential use. González recalls that “although in its day it was one of the areas most linked to tourist residence in the municipality, due to the specific urban development of the environment, in recent years it has gradually been converted into a residential area mainly for the local population. ».

the mayor Noelia Gonzalez adds that “this project in question, which is tendered as one of the largest investments of this mandate, close to 900,000 euros, aims to condition the urban spaces of the three streets mentioned, rehabilitating both the pipes and the pavement, the lighting , gardening and asphalt».

The main objective of this important municipal investment is “to provide The Romantic II of a new urban aesthetic where the criteria of universal accessibility and environmental quality prevail, improving pedestrian areas and landscaped spaces, taking into account that this environment is also located in a privileged enclave that gives access to the network of coastal paths of the town », emphasizes Adolf Gonzalez.

The streets of the Romantica I and II urbanizations have become since 2021 a very frequented place by people who come to contemplate “one of the six most beautiful abandoned places in the world”, according to the tourist portal Civitatis. It is the ruins of Gordejuela water elevatorvery close to the urbanization but on land that belongs to the Protected Landscape of Rambla de Castro.

Many residents in Tenerife and visitors also come to this area to enjoy the impressive views offered by this industrial structure from 1903, promoted by the hamilton house to raise the waters of the springs in the area. It was designed by the military engineer José Galván Balaguer, supported by León de Torres and León Huerta, and according to the Hispania Nostra collective, which included it on the Red List of Heritage in Spain, “the work marked a milestone in its time for having installed inside the first steam engine on the island».

One of the main accesses to these ruins is a small path between potato gardens from Calle Romántica I, although the official access starts from Rambla de Castro, through the coastal path, which is currently closed at Los Roques beach, near the border with the municipality of Puerto de la Cruz. From that path you can enjoy the views of the elevator, both in the enabled viewpoint and from the bridge of the Palo Blanco ravine.
