SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 8 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The secretary general and senator of the Canary Coalition (CC), Fernando Clavijo, has accused this Friday the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, of “negotiating” with Morocco the jurisdictional waters of the Canary Islands with “total opacity” and without knowing “in exchange for than”.

At a press conference, he showed his “perplexity” with the political and diplomatic situation because “the worst imaginable scenario” has been opened, since Spain “agrees to negotiate the Canarian territorial waters.”

He has commented that Morocco has spent several years with a policy of “fait accomplis” appropriating waters that are not its own, to the point that it came to make a territorial delimitation between Mauritania, the Sahara and the Canary Islands, without respecting international law “and one-sided way”.

Clavijo has indicated that in the face of “repeated denunciations” of their formation they have met with “silence” or “everything is fine” and now they have realized that the waters of the archipelago “are subject to negotiation”.

The nationalist leader has not hidden that “it is convenient to have a good neighbor” with Morocco but has recalled that there is a “history of renunciations” of the archipelago such as fishing or tomato “and now it seems to be” that it is up to the waters.

Thus, the nationalists expect an “immediate explanation” from the president of the Canarian Government, Ángel Víctor Torres, and that he go to Parliament to find out “if he has been informed” or if he “agrees” with the position of the central Executive.

Clavijo has pointed out that “the time to turn around has passed” because “this is serious” and they are “deeply concerned” because the central government “does not care about the Canary Islands” and the regional government is “complacent”

He has also said that they do not expect “anything” from the Torres government partners because they could have presented an “element of force” with the turn on the Sahara and Podemos “is silent, neither is it nor is it expected” and NC has preferred ” maintain the chair” of Román Rodríguez in the vice-presidency and the Ministry of Finance than “confront” the socialists.

DO NOT EXPECT “ANYTHING” FROM NC AND YES WE CAN, TORRES PARTNERS

“We do not expect anything, but citizens have to take into account the principles of these parties,” he stressed, because “they lower their heads and hide” because “it is more important to remain in the armchairs than to defend integrity and principles.”

Clavijo has specified that it is not just a territorial or political conflict but that there is a “quite high” economic component, since Morocco has been authorizing oil and gas prospecting in the Atlantic and “it is worrying about what can be done in those waters”.

The regional deputy Rosa Dávila has shown her “absolute rejection” of the way Pedro Sánchez is conducting the negotiations and has recalled that her party has presented more than one hundred initiatives in the Cortes and the Canarian Parliament because they were very concerned about relations with the Sahara and Morocco.

Thus, he pointed out that more than a year ago they delimited the waters – two laws that delimit the Moroccan territorial sea up to 12 miles and the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of 200 miles from its coasts, which conflicted with the of the Spanish territorial waters in the islands– contravening international law and that fact “was not denounced” by the Government of Spain “and without any explanation” before the Government of the Canary Islands and the UN.

Dávila wondered “in what situation the Canary Islands are left” after the meeting between Sánchez and Mohamed VI and if the Government of the Canary Islands is going to continue “compromising” with the “unilateral attitude” of the president.

“This requires detailed information and the Canary Coalition is not going to remain silent in the face of this new outrage,” he commented.
