The Canary Islands Government Council has approved this Thursday the decree by which it resolves the sanctioning procedure initiated by the zero energy which in July 2020 occurred in Tenerife, and in which it proposes a fine of 6 million euros to the electricity distributor and more than 10 million to the generator.
The Canarian Government has described the infractions as very serious and has therefore proposed a penalty of 10 million euros to Unelco and 6 million euros to E-Distribución Redes Digitales for the incident that occurred at 9:41 a.m. on July 15, 2020 in the electrical system of Tenerife.

In the agreement of the Governing Council it is explained that in the investigation of the file it is proven that E-Distribución Redes Digitales, SLU, is responsible for not having shed the demand required in the current Shedding Plan approved by the CNE, which contributed to that the incident resulted in a total interruption of supply or zero electricity.
The lack of technical suitability of the configuration of the relay system in its facilities to meet the demand objectives to be shed established in the current plan of the CNE is also accredited, it is added in the agreement of the Governing Council.
For these reasons, in the resolution proposal of the instructor of the sanctioning procedure, the imposition of a fine of 6,000,001 euros is proposed for the commission of two very serious infractions.
Regarding Unión Eléctrica de Canarias Generación, SAU, the sanctioning procedure concludes that it is responsible for originating the chain of events that caused a reduction in the available generation capacity and a reduction in supply that led to an interruption of this, first partial and , finally, in the form of electric zero.
For these reasons, in the resolution proposal of the instructor of the sanctioning procedure, the imposition of a fine of 10,002,751 euros is proposed for the commission of two very serious administrative infractions.
