SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 7 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has opened this Thursday the call for aid for livestock feeding, to which a budget of 1.3 million euros has been allocated.

The island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Javier Parrilla, explains in a note that “the call has been brought forward with the aim of reducing uncertainty in the sector and that farmers have the money as soon as possible”.

These aids are intended to defray part of the expenses derived from the feeding of sheep, goats, cattle, pigs, rabbits and poultry on the island.

Thus, it is estimated that around 300 livestock farms will benefit from this subsidy, which aims to contribute to the maintenance of productivity and the economic recovery of farms.

The counselor assures that it is a matter of compensating for the losses derived from the increase in the price of feed “and of alleviating, as far as possible, the impact of the war in Ukraine on the primary sector.”

In this way, he continues, “it contributes to curbing a reduction in livestock censuses on the island, offering greater possibilities for the recovery of the sector.”

Those natural or legal persons who are owners of livestock farms on the island that are officially registered in the Registry of Livestock Farms of the Canary Islands (REGA) may apply for these grants.

Farms must also be up to date with their tax and Social Security obligations, and have a livestock census of each species (sheep, goats, cattle, pigs, rabbits and poultry) greater than one Livestock Unit (UGM). ).

The deadline for submitting applications will remain open for 20 working days starting this Thursday.

This call is added to the one that was opened last Thursday for the livestock health defense groups (ADSG) of the island.

The objective of this subsidy, to which 100,000 euros have been allocated, is to improve the animal health of the cattle herd of Tenerife.

OTHER AID FOR 2022

The Cabildo will also allocate 200,000 euros this year to artisanal dairies; 45,000 euros to support traditional breeds and 300,000 euros to eliminate fees for insemination assistance, in order to achieve an optimal number of heads of cattle on the island at the lowest possible cost.

The Canarian Drag Association will also receive 100,000 euros to feed the rough cattle and 824,775 euros will be invested in the maintenance of the Insular Slaughterhouse of Tenerife (MIT) with the aim of guaranteeing the quality and safety of the marketing and distribution of meat products.
