In less than a week we will be in Holy Week. That’s right, from April 10 to 17 this traditional celebration will take place in Spain. In addition to being the last chance to rest for several days before the summer holidays, each day of Holy Week responds to a different episode of the Bible.

It should be noted that Friday, April 9, also plays an important role in Holy Week. This day is popularly known as the Friday of Sorrows.. Her name is closely related to the Virgin Mary, as it commemorates the pains she felt in the week prior to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The April 11 -Easter Monday- It is also a festival, but only in some autonomous communities. In the Canary Islands, along with other communities such as Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid, Murcia, Ceuta and Melilla, that day is a working day.

The Holy Tuesday, Judas takes center stage, as it is the day that Jesus of Nazareth predicts his betrayal in front of his disciples. On April 13 (Holy Wednesday) commemorates the day on which the Jewish religious court condemns Jesus. Thus, April 14 is when the Last Supper takes place, which is commemorated in each Eucharist but also during this day.

Also, the Holy Thursday It will be a party in the Canary Islands and in all the autonomies except in Catalonia and the Valencian Community.

It is also a holiday Good Friday, the 15th, when the day of Jesus’ death on the Cross is commemorated. The stay in prison, the interrogations to which he was subjected by Caiaphas and Pilate, the flagellation, the crowning with thorns, the Way of the Cross, the Crucifixion and the Burial of Jesus are also commemorated. It is another of the most relevant days of this week and, as happens with Holy Thursday, it is a day of recollection and reflection.
