SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 6 Apr. (EUROPA PRESS) – Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife (Titsa), a company of the Cabildo de Tenerife, recorded 4,033,738 passengers, which represents an increase of 1.4% compared to the same period of 2019. It is the first month that the four million users since the health crisis caused by Covid-19.

The vice president of the Cabildo, Minister of Mobility and president of Titsa, Enrique Arriaga, explained that “these data reflect the commitment that the Cabildo is making to promote the use of public transport to achieve a more sustainable island and improve traffic on the island’s roads. “.

And he added that “if the figures for March 2022 are compared with the same month last year, Titsa registers very considerable increases on all its routes. This means that passengers increased by 41.9% compared to March 2021, going from 2,843,311 to the current 4,033,738 travelers”.

The counselor pointed out that “the long-distance lines, which connect the north and south of the island, increased by 127.3% with almost 27,000 more passengers. The routes of the southern area grew by 90.1% compared to the same month of last year, with 464,767 more passengers, while long-haul flights to the south rose by 71%”.

For his part, the island director of Mobility, José Alberto León, maintains that Titsa has been adapting the offer as demand has grown, always with the aim of making the bus the first option for getting around the island.

“The bus and the tram are fundamental in the mobility of citizens and tourists, so, despite the increase in fuel prices, we are not going to increase the price of tickets,” he assured.

All of the company’s routes experienced increases in the number of customers or are close to 2019 figures.

Long-distance lines to the south and to the north recorded increases of 25.1% and 12.1%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2019. In March of this year, they used the services to or from the south of the island a total of 297,519 passengers compared to 237,906 who did so before the pandemic. To or from the north, 304,403 travelers traveled last month compared to 271,427 in 2019.

Other routes that had a very positive evolution were the intercity routes of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and those of the southern zone with 8.3% and 7.3% more than in 2019.
