He offers an “outstretched hand” to the opposition but remarks that “they have not been able to prove anything” and that he is not going to “apologize” for having presented himself

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 6 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The general secretary of CEOE-Tenerife, Pedro Alfonso, has been elected this Wednesday as the new president of the Tenerife employers’ association, replacing José Carlos Francisco after obtaining 70% of the votes and the other candidacy, led by Victoria González, financial director of Grupo Chafiras, who has not obtained the necessary guarantees.

This iron, which had the support of the employers Apeca (Car Rental Business Association of the Canary Islands), Ashotel (Hotel and Non-Hotel Association of Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro), Facca (Federation of Food and Canary Islands Consumption) and Femete (Federation of Metal Companies of Santa Cruz de Tenerife), has announced that it will appeal the result before the courts of justice.

Alfonso led a candidacy with 142 endorsements compared to 32 for González, who did not pass the minimum cut by not covering the necessary 62, and in the final vote he obtained 132 votes in favor by 40 against plus 18 abstentions.

In statements to the media after the general assembly, he pointed out that this vote gives him a “wide margin of work” to face the challenges of his presidency and has offered the other candidacy “collaboration and an outstretched hand” to solve all the problems .

He has said that the discrepancies regarding the electoral process “never” should have come out from within the organization and although he has indicated that he would not “like” the process to end up in the courts of justice, he has indicated that they will defend themselves and is convinced that they will “prove” them right.

According to Alfonso, “they have not been able to prove anything, they have remained in the field of words”, since their candidacy has been supported by the employer’s legal team plus another external hired to protect the process.

Along these lines, he has denied that he was “judge and party” in the elections, as the other panel has denounced, since he resigned from his position in favor of Eduardo Bezares when they were called and, in fact, Bezares was in charge of managing The elections.

He also clarified that when he applied he had the endorsement of a company that “on the last day unsubscribed without reason or reason” for which he applied with another company despite the fact that “it is not necessary” because the candidacy “is for staff” and you don’t need any company. “He was accepted and ratified by the assembly”, he highlighted.

The new president, who has been supported by the president of ATA, Lorenzo Amor, has insisted that “everything has been clear” and stressed that he is not going to “apologize” for having presented himself to preside over CEOE-Tenerife.

“WAIT FOR WHAT THE JUSTICE SAYS”

Victoria González has lamented that the elections have not been annulled due to the “irregularities” of the process, so now it is time to “wait for what the justice says” once the lawsuit against the result is filed.

He has criticized that there has been “a blockage” to his candidacy from the beginning because many businessmen lent their endorsement to Alfonso before the process began because they were told that there was only going to be “a single candidate.”

In addition, he has said that Alfonso “has no representation” of any company and “they have taken it for granted”, stressing that there has not been a “democratic process” and that “things have not been done as they had to be done”.

In fact, he has pointed out that the votes against Alfonso “make it clear that they do not agree on how things have been done” – the other candidacy tried unsuccessfully to get him out by acclamation -.

Alfonso is accompanied in the new executive by Eduardo Bezares, as general secretary, and as vice presidents Abbas Moujir (Fauca), Óscar Izquierdo (Fepeco), José Manuel Fernández Sabugo (Cepsa), Javier Zamorano (Compañía de las Islas Occidentales) and Thomas Barrett.
