The South prepares to receive the motorhomes at Easter
Space of 7,000 square meters enabled for motorhomes in Amarilla Golf, in San Miguel de Abona.

The municipalities of South prepare to receive at Easter the users of motorhomes, an alternative form of tourism that in recent years has experienced notable growth throughout the region and that is appreciated, above all, in the summer months and at Easter. Municipal ordinances establish limited areas for the parking of this type of vehicle, in addition to caravans and campers, and establish sanctions for those who fail to comply with them.

The City Council of Granadilla de Abona has planned the Montaña Roja campsite as a parking and camping area. The Councilor for Transport, Fredi Oramas, clarified that the well-known site of La Inglesa, in El Cabezo, cannot be used for this practice, since it will be enabled for conventional car parking. It is a plot affected by the demarcation of the Coastal Law.

The mayor confirmed that the City Council has already sought other alternatives and has planned several actions in Pelada and Los Abrigos, “so that they can be operational as soon as possible, with all the guarantees in a regulated and orderly manner.” In addition, he confirmed that he has contacted the owners of private lots interested in adapting some regulated motorhome parking.

From the opposition, PSOE and Ciudadanos denounced yesterday the “inaction” of the municipal government in compliance with the ordinance and in the control over this type of vehicle. Jennifer Miranda (PSOE) and Adán García (Cs) pointed out that El Médano “has become a camping paradise in which caravans invade the La Inglesa lot, by the sea, without any type of action or control, or surveillance.”

Arona

In Arona, caravans, motorhomes and vans that wish to park and spend the night will have access to El Rincón, in Los Cristianos, a place equipped with gray and black water drainage. From the Security area it is recalled that these vehicles can circulate and spend the night freely, but it is prohibited to take furniture out into the public space to cook or hang clothes. “What it is about is making the rights of motorhome owners compatible with coexistence and respect for public space,” said Councilor Francisco Marichal, who insisted on the use of El Rincón.

Guide to Isora

In Guía de Isora, the areas planned for motorhome parking are in La Costa street (Alcalá), Rompeolas street (San Juan Beach) and Constitución avenue, in the municipal area.

From the City Council it is reported that the maximum parking time will be that indicated on the signage or, failing that, 72 hours during the same week. In addition, camping on public roads or in adjacent spaces throughout the municipality is prohibited, “with the exception of areas duly authorized by the competent municipal authority.”

San Miguel

San Miguel de Abona approved last November the ordinance regulating the parking of motorhomes and vans. The City Council set up a 7,000 square meter parking space in the Amarilla Golf development for 72 hours for these vehicles with an ecological point for recycling waste and filling clean water tanks.

The Tenerife Motorhome Association indicates that lovers of this activity are not only looking for parking areas, but also approved areas that have the necessary infrastructure so that vehicles can empty sewage, as well as garbage containers. They also recall that the presence of motorhomes is an economic incentive for local businesses. “We like to eat in the restaurants in the area, have coffee at the bar and shop in supermarkets,” says this group.
