Security guards from Santa Cruz de Tenerife protest in front of the City Hall for the non-payment of their payroll

The workers of the private security company SH Lanzarote, awarded the surveillance service in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, gathered this Tuesday, April 5, in front of the Consistory to demand the payment of their last two payrolls.

It was for this reason that the councilor for the Presidency of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Alfonso Cabello, met with provincial directors of the Social Security Treasury. The objective of this meeting was to know in detail the embargoes that weigh on SH Lanzarote “and try to get this administration to speed up the necessary steps as soon as possible that allow the payment to be unblocked to the workers, who are owed in recent months” argued the councilman.

“The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is doing everything possible, even beyond what corresponds to it, since this is a problem of the SH Lanzarote company with Social Security”. Cabello maintains that, as soon as the meeting of the technicians and directors with the provincial delegate ended, he went to the City Hall where he gave the protesters all the information regarding their situation.

In this sense, the Councilor for the Presidency announced that “as soon as there is any news, which we hope will be in the next few days, they will get back in touch with all of them so that they are up to date with all the proceedings.”

As confirmed by Cabello, the City Council is willing to pay at any time. “Since we have the communication from the Social Security Treasury regarding the situation of the embargoes, the payment will be executed,” he concludes in a press release.

Gustavo Villalobos, representative of CSIF Canarias in the sector, denounced that “for several months, the SH Lanzarote company has not met the date of payment of payroll to its workers, exceeding the date of entry beyond two months”. “The workers have risen to the occasion, maintaining a patience to praise. What we cannot continue to allow is that they laugh at our colleagues, ”he said in a statement.

Villalobos insists that “given the company’s lack of liquidity, it is the workers who, once again, pay for poor business management with their mileurist savings”

It should be remembered that this problem has been dragging on for months. In fact, at the end of December the workers expressed their intention to organize rallies and strikes if the non-payment of their wages was not remedied. At that time, the security guards had not collected their November payroll. “The workers have risen to the occasion, maintaining a patience to praise, but what we cannot continue to allow is that they laugh at their colleagues,” they pointed out in a press release.
