The Arona Town Hall reported yesterday that it has conveyed to the Cabildo its concern about the possibility that the emergency works of the Las Galletas walk overlap with him start of the school year, so it asks for speed in the execution of the works. As indicated by the government group, the Cabildo has communicated to the municipal corporation that the works will begin next week, since the hiring of the company that will carry out the work is in its final phase.
The last friday, high tide caused the subsidence of part of the Las Galletas beach promenade, exposing a gap of more than four meters that has forced the closure of one of the lanes to traffic and turning the TF-66 into a one-way entrance to Las Galletas.
The mayor of Arona, Jose Julian MenaHe pointed out that “it is urgent that the work to be carried out by the Cabildo begins as soon as possible. A week has already passed since the sinking of the Paseo de Las Galletas. The start of the school year is just around the corner and the business fabric cannot wait any longer ”. For his part, the Security Councilor, Francisco Marichal, indicated that the City Council “has coordinated from the first moment with the Cabildo and Costas to adopt the necessary measures.”
The Canary Islands Coalition also demanded yesterday that the improvement of the TF-66 be undertaken “urgently” and criticized that, as a preventive measure, it has been chosen to keep one of the lanes in the Las Galletas-El Fraile direction closed to traffic, “which is causing traffic jams and annoyances to the residents and visitors of Las Galletas, also in the middle of the summer period, which is when the coastal nucleus has the greatest influx of tourists ”.
