The plenary of Guia Town Hall of Tenerife by Isora approves the Maguenes partial plan, of 854,000 square meters, which includes the Maguenes Resort hotel, the first designed by the architect Norman Foster in the Canary Islands and which, due to its size, will become one of the largest tourist complexes in the Archipelago. Designed as a Canarian terrace and blending into the surroundings, it will have 900 beds in its 84,000 square meters, which adds to the 500,928 of the 18-hole dirt golf course, as well as the 99 residential beds of the 33 high-end villas. category grouped under the name Maguenes Residences, which make up this project promoted by the CIO group (Western Islands Company) through its brand The Tais Hotels & Villas.

To highlight the quality of the initiative, the mayor, joseph table, highlights that the project “does not exhaust” the more than 1,600 hotel beds that correspond to it, nor the buildability allowed by current urban planning regulations. “It is an exemplary project,” defends the councillor. Maguenes is in line with the five-star luxury tourist complexes defended by the Consistory for the Isorano territory.

The presence of Norman Foster, one of the most prestigious architects in the world, to the project is valued as synonymous with quality, prestige and relevant tourist attraction

In addition to the plus that he attributes to the fact that “it will be the only hotel in the Canary Islands designed by the famous architect Norman Foster”, he highlights that the golf course “is also designed by an internationally renowned golfer: Gary Player». Its location will provide this enclave with one of the most important golfing areas in Spain, with 45 holes resulting from adding the 18 of Maguenes, 18 of Abama Golf and the nine of its extension.

The importance of sustainable development is one of the priorities in the project. The developer company highlights that, “for all these reasons, it will be integrated with the existing landscape, organic terraces will be used and the slopes of the land will be used to maximize views and differentiate the various areas of the resort.” An aspect also highlighted by Mesa, who assures that “its integration into the landscape is such that its lights are hardly reflected in the design”. From the perspective of the mayor, “it will improve the tourist offer of Guía de Isora, already of the highest quality”.

Of strategic interest

The company chaired by Francisco Javier Zamorano highlights “the intense work carried out by municipal technicians and political leaders in the years that the processing has lasted” for the Maguenes partial plan. It so happens that this project has been declared of strategic interest at the regional level due to its urban, tourist and environmental characteristics, according to the Isorano municipal government.

Antonio Díaz de las Casas, director of the CIO Group, recalls that Maguenes Resort «is part of a segment of luxury tourism, quality and high purchasing power for which Guía de Isora and the island of Tenerife have always opted, which, in this case , have the advice and design of world-class architects, such as Norman Foster or Gary Player».

Norman Foster

In addition to being one of those responsible for the extension of the Prado Museum, in the biography of the British Norman Foster (Manchester, June 1, 1935) other emblematic projects stand out, such as the headquarters of the HSBC bank, which he built in 1985 in Hong Kong, the Nimes Media Library and the Milleau Aqueduct, in France; the Collserola tower, in Barcelona; the design of the Bilbao Metro (1995), the Hearst Tower, in New York (2006); the London City Hall (2002), the Swiss RE Tower (2004), the Beijing airport (2007) or the Zayed National Museum of the United Arab Emirates (2017), together with the dome of the Reichstag (1999) in Berlin or the roof of the British museum. To his credit he has been the 2009 Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts. His connection with Spain reaches into his private life, as he is married to the psychologist Elena Ochoa.

Gary Player

If the presence of Foster in the project is presented as a guarantee of quality and prestige, it is no less so that of the South African Gary Player (Johannesburg, November 1, 1935), today a world-renowned golf course architect –with more of 300 designed projects– and one of the most relevant golfers in history since his triumphs in the 60s and 70s of the last century.

Overview of the developed Maguenes partial plan THE DAY

luxury tourism

Guía de Isora is a tourist destination based on five-star luxury establishments, such as the emblematic Abama and Palacio de Isora resorts. Last November, the Belgian family business The Menceyes Group announced an investment of 100 million euros to build a five-star luxury tourist and residential complex in Playa San Juan. The works could begin in the first quarter of the year and will add 1,100 beds for tourist use to the Isorano municipality. Since 2017 there has been talk of other luxury projects, such as Villa de Erques, on the Isorano border with Adeje, with 930 beds on a 150,000 square meter plot. And next to Cueva del Polvo, another luxury hotel project that will be built in 250,000 square meters. The financing, in this case, is of Russian origin.

Project details

less than allowed

The figures of the Maguenes partial plan reflect that the CIO Group is committed to not limiting the use of the assigned land.

80 soccer fields

The 854,397 square meters that the partial plan has are equivalent to the extension of about 80 soccer fields.

more public space

Although urban planning regulations require a minimum of 25,073 square meters to be allocated to the public domain, the project doubles that figure and raises it to 50,107 square meters.

Provisions and spaces

The partial plan reserves 24,755 square meters for public facilities and free spaces, while for private equipment it indicates 16,503 square meters, slightly below what is allowed.

990 hotel beds

The CIO Group is committed to a hotel project that significantly reduces its accommodation capacity. Of the 1,658 places to which it is entitled, the Maguenes Resort projects to have 900.

99 in the luxury villas

The residential part of the project, called Maguenes Residences, does reach the limit in the number of villas, 33, and 99 accommodation places.

the golf course

The 500,928 square meters of surface that the 18-hole golf course will have is one of the added attractions for the tourist destination. The facility will have no grass
