SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 30. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The third vice-president and councilor for Social Action of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Marián Franquet, and the president of the Hemophilia Association in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (AHETE), Tomás Díaz, have reaffirmed the commitment to collaboration that both entities have maintained since 2002, on the occasion of the celebration of the association’s 30th anniversary.
The commemorative act, held at the island headquarters, was attended by representatives of all the political groups represented in the Cabildo, as well as the group of people with hemophilia and other collaborating institutions of the association.
Marián Franquet highlighted the trajectory of this association with which the Cabildo has been collaborating for almost 20 years to offer a comprehensive service that improves the quality of life of people with hemophilia and which was also one of the first associations to join, in 2014 , to the Insular Ring of Social Policies.
As he explained, “AHETE perfectly defines what the Insular Ring of Social Policies means” by allowing decentralization and bringing services closer to all people with hemophilia and their families and friends. “The fact that they have resources both in the north, in the south and in the metropolitan area, makes social action get closer to where the need is and reach the people who need it most, and not the other way around,” she added.
For his part, Tomás Díaz highlighted “the support of the Cabildo de Tenerife, which has always been there, and the work and effort of both the workers of the association and the families” that made the association possible. “30 years ago hemophilia was a great unknown. My mother was one of the first people who started fighting for this association when it had no name. Today, far from the awards, the most important thing for AHETE is to always be by its side. people with hemophilia and that they always feel supported by us,” he assured.
Currently, AHETE cares for more than 85 diagnosed people, in addition to carriers and relatives, encompassing more than 250 people. The professionalization of the association came in 2002, when two social workers were hired to provide a specific and continuous service to people with the pathology and their families.
In the last two years, the Cabildo de Tenerife has doubled the financial support it provides to the Association, within the framework of the Insular Ring of Social Policies, with an annual allocation of 40,000 euros compared to the 20,000 granted in 2019. Today, This collaboration is channeled through the project Attending to a new reality, a program that seeks to facilitate the employment of people affected by this disease, a congenital coagulation disorder.
This association pays specific attention to people with coagulopathies and their families, through a comprehensive and transversal methodology that encompasses prevention and improvements in their physical health to emotional well-being, which derives from feeling supported by professionals and by the rest of families, provide them with tools that empower them to manage ICTs, Job Search or raise awareness in society about this rare disease and what are the repercussions of the daily life of these people and their families.
