CEIP César Manrique launches a pilot program

The Government of the Canary Islands has authorized the CEIP Cesar Manriqueat Cross portto teach the third year of the first cycle of early childhood education, in the 2022/2023 academic year.

The main objective of this new initiative is the promotion of schooling for boys and girls from 0 to 3 years old, with accessible, affordable, inclusive and quality public places, taking into account that schooling at this stage is conceived as a compensatory measure for the effects of inequalities of economic, social, territorial and cultural origin of students, and therefore provides equity to the education system, in addition to favoring the detection of learning difficulties and early attention.

The CEIP César Manrique will carry it out as a pilot experience and in order to respond, an analysis has been carried out of each of the municipalities of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands with respect to the population under 3 years of age and the offer of existing places in the first cycle of early childhood education, both in public and private centers, in order to detect the need for places and respond to it.

It should be noted that the population growth forecast has also been taken into consideration for supply, since a decrease in the birth rate has been detected that directly affects the schooling needs that each area may have, as well as those in which there is a greater number of students in vulnerable situations.

By 2022/2023, the creation of classrooms for the third year of the first cycle of early childhood education in certain educational centers and, exceptionally, three mixed classrooms, for the second and third years of the first cycle, located in municipalities with special geographic and sociodemographic characteristics. “We work in coordination with the educational community of the city and the rest of the schools to continue promoting these tools to improve the education of the city’s boys and girls in public centers”, emphasizes the Councilor for Education, Flora Perera.

The Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands will monitor and evaluate the planned pilot experience for its assessment and continuous improvement.
