Seven hours go a long way, but very few things were made clear from the very long plenary session of the Cabildo de Tenerife held yesterday, for the first time in two years, with all the councilors (31) present in the plenary hall, where María del Cristo González, after the resignation of Ruth Acosta, as director of Sí Podemos Canarias.
Once again, the differences between parties that support the Government and those that do not (CC and PP) were experienced, in addition to the usual clashes between Cs and Sí Podemos, more specifically, between Enrique Arriaga and María José Belda, on account of two of the main public companies, Titsa and ITER.

Sí Podemos, on the other hand, did support the theses of the Government of Pedro Martín to overthrow a motion by the Nationalist group, with an amendment by the PP, in which it proposed an economic relief plan worth 68 million euros that included a reduction in taxes, such as the two cents that the Cabildo collects for fuels and the price of transport. Both Enrique Arriaga (Cs), and the Minister of Finance, Berta Pérez (PSOE), agreed that the Corporation should not rush and take measures that are “coordinated” with those of the European Union, the State and the Government of the Canary Islands to guarantee its effectiveness.

Within these economic measures to alleviate the crisis produced in various sectors by the war in Ukraine, the Plenary did unanimously approve an institutional motion in support of livestock.

The proposal encompasses a battery of measures, among which the suspension, for one year, of the payment of fees for the use of the Tenerife Island Slaughterhouse (MIT), which will mean an estimated saving of 1.1 million euros for the sector.

The text, presented by the island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, also includes the need to streamline the procedures for all aid processed in favor of livestock and establishes the possibility of convening, if necessary, another extraordinary subsidy for cattle feed.

In Enrique Arriaga’s appearance on Titsa, he recalled that the Cabildo has had to allocate 77 million euros to cover losses in 2021, after the COVID crisis, and pointed out that the incorporation of 117 new workers will improve frequencies on those lines more demanded, while it was advanced that the Bus-Vao lane from Güímar to Santa Cruz has been tendered and that of the TF-5 from La Laguna to Santa Cruz is pending the lagoon bypass works.

Almost a million euros to pay for the vats of El Rosario

The Cabildo initially approved -the Intervention report is pending- a credit modification of 1.7 million euros, among other reasons, to cover the expenses derived from the transport of discharges in tank trucks from the Güímar Valley to the industrial treatment plant of La Campana, some expenses that will not reach 150,000 euros, as the biological rector was placed in the Edari de Arafo 10 days before the end of the term given by the Vice-Ministry for the Fight Against Climate Change, within the signed stage plan. In this credit modification, the request of the El Rosario City Council is met, which will receive 952,960.54 euros, the money it had to pay for the transfer of the discharges from La Campana and Costanera to the Buenos Aires treatment plant until it was finished the Edari rosarina. The 185,000 euros that Fasnia dedicated to discharges from Los Roques are also taken care of.
