The Ministry of Education and Youth of the council allocate this year 9.6 million euros for scholarships for young students, 21% more (1,708,175 euros) than in 2021. The counselor of the area, Concepción Rivero, highlights that “61 of every 100 euros of the budget are dedicated to study aid.” The goal, she underlines, is that “any boy on the island can be trained and the level of income does not prevent it.”

The insular institution, therefore, focuses its efforts during this year on ensuring that the economic crisis “is not an obstacle” for young people to pursue their studies. This was stated by Rivero during the presentation of the accounts of the area that in 2022 reach 15,869,800 euros. This figure represents an increase of 9.27% compared to last year. The insular director, Isabel Bello, sketches with her the drawing of the annual forecasts,

Rivero points out that “the item dedicated to scholarships amounts to 9,690,759 euros, which represents an increase of 21.4% compared to last year.” The investment is intended to ensure that there are no reserve lists; that is, that all students who meet the requirements set forth in the scholarship bases can benefit from them. The counselor emphasizes the importance of “educational and youth projects” that have a budget of 2,186,404 euros, 14% of the total.

The amount includes calls Scholarships of Excellence, General Contest, Erasmus, Academic Achievement and Transportation. He points out that the commitment to linguistic immersion for high school students remains “very firm”, to which 2,510,318 euros are dedicated, a budget that has also been increased to, in addition, diversify the offer of modalities, a novelty this year. The island director also indicates that in 2022 “the Education and Youth area focuses another of its main lines of work on training.” She does this through, fundamentally, the Tenerife Joven Includes School, which has a wide range of training, and the Closing the Digital Divide programme. The latter is dedicated to both young people and adults for the acquisition of the digital skills necessary to handle themselves on a day-to-day basis. From the most basic levels to the most advanced. And for all.

Ponos project.

Another of the key designs that remain this year is the ponos project. It is aimed at unemployed young people between 16 and 35 years of age for whom a personalized advice, training, insertion and support service is created, with the aim of facilitating their hiring through labor insertion scholarships. Also noteworthy is the Youth Information Center, a meeting point located on the ground floor of TEA.

Youth Houses.

Bello emphasizes that throughout 2022 the works of two new Youth Houses will be carried out in Santiago del Teide and Icod de Los Vinos.
