The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, accompanied by the councilor for Mobility, Evelyn Alonso, and the councilor for the Salud-La Salle district, Carlos Tarife, met yesterday morning with several businessmen from the shops in the avenue of Venezuela, “to learn about your proposal to establish rotating car parks, with the aim of providing greater agility to parking lots and making this commercial area more attractive for purchases in local businesses,” said Bermúdez. This formula is the first experience of its kind to be launched in the capital and through which specific time slots will be established to use the available car parks for a limited time. “This system allows, between nine in the morning and two in the afternoon, and between 4:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., to park in the spaces defined as rotating for a time that has yet to be defined by the technicians, but which will range between half an hour and an hour”, explained to DIARIO DE AVISOS the also Councilor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife.

This measure has already been implemented in municipalities such as La Laguna, Tacoronte or La Orotava, with the aim of increasing the rotation of car parks and preventing them from remaining occupied throughout the day by the same vehicle.

During the visit, the mayor, for his part, also communicated to the businessmen “the benefits of the Santa Cruz Consumption Bonds” and explained the advantages to the merchants “in fact -he continued- the first edition reflected its success with the participation of 330 companies of the municipality adhered to the program and about 800,000 euros injected into the companies, in about five months”. He concluded by stating that for the second edition “the budget has been expanded and it is expected to generate an effect on the economy of around 1.2 million euros from this initiative, which for the entrepreneur allows a greater number of sales due to discounts to its customers” .

Regarding the proposal for the rotating car parks, the Councilor for Security and Mobility, Evelyn Alonso, promised “to immediately start the steps to start up, at least provisionally and in the test phase, the rotating car parks”. As detailed, “it is an initiative that requires a study to guarantee the viability of this measure, since it must contemplate delimitation of the area, vertical and horizontal signage, in addition to, probably, an application for the mobile in order to confirm that the Drivers do not exceed the established time limit.

For Tarife, “the measure suggested by the merchants in this area of the Salud-La Salle district is a possible way out to support local commerce and this business area in the middle of Avenida de Venezuela.” The mayor assessed that “in any case, the afternoon-night car parks must also be respected, with which they must have time slots from Monday to Friday, in order to make the use of residents compatible with those of buyers and merchants.

With regard to parking, the merchants of Avenida de Venezuela understand that it is “what buyers demand, because they are used to arriving with their own vehicle, stopping for a moment, and making a purchase.” In addition, they argue that “otherwise, it is impossible to compete with the modern shopping center, since these do have large parking areas” and they were favorable “to proving the benefits that separate us from the Santa Cruz Consumer Bonds”.
