The Canary Islands Cheese Fair returns to Pinolere two years later

The XI Canary Islands Cheese Fair return to Pinolere Ethnographic Park two years later. After the break forced by the pandemic of Covid-19 in 2020 and 2021, some 60 dairies from the islands will show and sell their production on April 9 and 10 in this space in the middle of La Orotava. The Island Councilor for Agriculture and Livestock, Javier Grillremarked the “proven quality” of the island’s cheeses, “which will also be in Madrid Fusion», and announced that to help the livestock sector «this week a new item will be approved to subsidize livestock feed, at a time of fear, uncertainty and overwhelm for the sector».

The director of the Canarian Institute of Agrifood Quality (ICCA), Basil Perez, valued the importance of a regional fair that “shows the richness and diversity of cheeses in the Canary Islands, unique and world-renowned cheeses”. the village mayor, Francis Linaresinsisted on the need to encourage the consumption of produce from the land and encouraged families to take their children to a fair that will be “an authentic didactic unit.”

One of the highlights of this fair will be the Sample of Canarian Autochthonous Breeds, in which dogs, goats, chickens, pigeons, sheep, pigs, cows, donkeys, bees and birds will participate. Coordinates Samcor, with the collaboration of Acricati, Granja Ara, Agate and the Farmer’s House.

Cheese wedges for buying tickets

The Department of Agriculture of the City Council of La Orotava and Pinolere organize a new promotion starting on March 28 to encourage the sale of tickets for the XI Cheese Fair. For every two tickets or more that are purchased from that date on at a booth set up on Carrera Escultor Estévez street, a wedge of about 300 grams of cheese from one of the three dairies in the municipality will be given away: Benijos, Antonio and Juana or Pinolere. There will be 500 wedges to distribute. The price of each ticket is two euros.
